BBL — Brazilian Butt Lift — is a body contouring procedure in which fat is transferred to reshape proportions. This article explains the principle, how planning works, what recovery involves, and the questions worth asking before deciding anything.

What BBL actually is

BBL is a fat transfer procedure. Fat is collected from an area where it is available — commonly the abdomen, flanks or thighs — prepared, and then placed to improve the shape and projection of the buttocks and hips.

Because it uses your own tissue, the approach is individual by definition: the result depends on how much fat is available, how it settles, and how the tissue heals. This is why no honest plan promises a specific volume or shape.

Body contouring beyond BBL

Body contouring is a family of procedures, not a single operation. Depending on the assessment, the medical team may discuss liposculpture, abdominoplasty, arm or thigh contouring, or a combination staged over time.

A combination is a decision, not an upgrade: each additional step has its own recovery and its own risks, and the medical team weighs benefit against that.

Planning: the part that decides the outcome

Planning starts with a full medical assessment: general health, medication, weight stability, and a realistic discussion of what can and cannot be achieved.

Photography, measurements and marking are clinical documents. They are used to plan and to follow healing — never as marketing material without written authorisation.

Recovery and aftercare

Recovery is staged: an initial period of rest and protected positioning, then a gradual return to normal activity, with compression and follow-up appointments as directed.

Your medical team gives you your own timeline — specific durations depend on your case, the technique used and how you heal. Instructions are followed exactly, and any unusual symptom is reported immediately rather than searched online.

Questions worth asking

Ask who performs the procedure and how many stages it involves. Ask what happens if fat does not settle as expected, and what the plan B is. Ask what you must stop before surgery and for how long.

Ask what your follow-up looks like after you return home, especially if you are travelling. A clear answer to that question says more about a clinic than any photograph.

Practical points for patients

Frequently asked questions

Am I a candidate for BBL?

That is a medical decision. Suitability depends on your health, anatomy, available fat and goals — it is determined by our medical team after an individual assessment.

How long is recovery?

Recovery differs from patient to patient and depends on the technique and your healing. Your medical team gives you a personal timeline at the consultation.

Will the result last?

Transferred fat that establishes a blood supply can remain, but the final shape is influenced by weight changes and healing over time. Your team explains this in detail.
