How to Prepare for Rhinoplasty

A practical preparation checklist for rhinoplasty: information to gather, questions to ask, logistics to arrange and what to avoid doing before surgery.

Preparation is where a good outcome starts. Most of it happens before you travel: information, questions, logistics and a clear head about what you want.

Gather your information first

Assemble your medical history, a list of current medication and allergies, and any previous surgery or treatment records. Photographs taken in daylight, without make-up, are more useful than flattering ones.

Write down what you want to change and, equally, what you want to keep. That second list prevents a lot of disappointment.

Prepare your questions

Ask who will perform the procedure, how the technique is chosen, what the plan includes, what is not included, and how follow-up contact works after you return home.

If an answer is vague, ask again. A clinic that respects you will not mind.

Arrange the practical side

Confirm your dates, accommodation and transfers, and make sure somebody at home knows your schedule. Keep your travel documents and your medical documents together.

Plan for a quiet period after the procedure rather than a busy itinerary.

What not to do

Do not book flights before your assessment is complete and your plan is agreed. Do not rely on advice from social media about medication, supplements or alcohol — ask your medical team.

Do not compare your plan to somebody else’s. Individual cases differ.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start preparing?

As soon as you are considering the procedure. Gathering information early makes the consultation more useful.

Do I need to stop any medication?

Only your medical team can answer that for your case. Never change medication on your own.

Can I travel alone?

Many patients travel with a companion for comfort. Discuss your situation with the clinic so the logistics can be planned around it.

What if I get a cold before surgery?

Tell the clinic immediately. Whether a procedure goes ahead is a medical decision.
